Different Kinds of Holiday Lights in Preparation for the Holiday Season

by Geraldine Medina

Holiday lights are the first thing you think of when the holiday season draws near. These lights are mostly found both outdoors and inside the house as well. Home decoration has become a tradition in every household and the installation of holiday lights are automatically a part of it. With this comes the dcor planning, organizing, and the most exciting part, putting everything together.

Holiday lights are part of this tradition. Almost every home has one. It never fails to bring a smile to everyone's faces reminding us that the holiday season is here. When mounting these lights, do not forget to read the instructions very well. It is important to remember, however, that before putting out the display lights, you should follow some safety precautions first.

You do not want to ruin the holidays because of some accident involving holiday lights. That is why you should be cautious when installing them at home. Read the package insert thoroughly and mount them properly. Make sure that the area where they will be placed provides the right fit. They should neither be too long nor to short.

Do not forget to read the instructions that come with the package as it will tell you which ones are for indoors and outdoors as there are those specifically made to withstand extreme weather conditions like snow and rain. You do not want any disastrous thing to happen during the holidays so it is best to always play safe.

If you are one of those who really want to have some holiday lights mounted in the outdoors of your property, you can try using LED lights. These are longer lasting and durable compared to regular holiday lights. In case they accidentally fall down, they will still be able to function properly. What is also nice about LED lights is that they are environmentally friendly and are less expensive than the others. They also come in different shapes, sizes and colors.

Another new set of holiday lights are icicle lights. They look like lots of tiny stars when surrounded by snow. They come in lots of contrasting colors. When these colors are mixed, the lighting combinations present a kaleidoscope of colors unusually seen with other holiday lights. The icicle ball-shaped lights is another version which will look good on trees and shrubs in your backyard.

One of the things in installing or hanging holiday lights is how you will fasten them or attach them properly. Most people use a staple gun, which is not really advisable. This is because the staples might accidentally tear the protective covering of the lights and this might cause an electric shock. When the wire snaps, it can even cause a fire.

A staple gun is only used for zip tie or twist tie holiday lights. Whatever kind you choose, it is advisable to always read its safety instructions. You do not want to ruin your holidays because of failing to observe being safe.
